The 3 major consequences (risks) of teen sexual activity are:

Emotional Pain

• Some of the emotional effects that sexually active teens experience are; worry, anxiety, guilt, fear, and depression.
• Non-virgin teen girls are six times more likely to commit suicide than girls who are a virgin.
• Sexually active guys are five times more likely to use alcohol and marijuana than guys who are not sexually active.

Pregnancy

• In the United States, 900,000 teenage girls become pregnant every year
• 1 in 5 girls will have become pregnant by the time they are 18.
• Only 13% of these girls graduate from high school.
• 80% of these teenage mothers end up on welfare.

Sexually Transmitted Disease

• 4 million teenagers get a STD each year
• 1 in 4 sexually active teens contracts an STD each year.
• There are more than 25 different STDs – some are incurable, and others lead to death.
